Formlabs Form 3BL

The Formlabs Form 3BL opens up more possibilities over the 3L as you are able to print with medical and biocompatible materials.

Formlabs 3BL Overview

Expand the capabilities of your business by investing in an Form 3BL printer. The printer can create functional end use parts as big as 33.5 x 20 x 30 cm.

Create complex parts for any use in a matter of hours or days, save yourself time and money.

The Form 3BL has two Light Processing Units that work simultaneously, this allows big prints to still be created in small time frames. As well as this, the lasers used still offer a resolution as precise as the Form 3 formlabs printer.

Formlabs Form 3BL Benefits

Formlabs SLA dental

Low Force Stereolithography

It uses a technology called Low Force Stereolithography, which significantly reduces the forces exerted on parts during the print process which can be optimised in Preform.

This is achieved by a flexible resin tank that bows gradually as the part is lowered into the resin.

This process enables light-touch support structure and improves performance and repeatability. With the Form 3BL, true rapid prototyping is made possible and post-processing is made easier with snap away support structure.

Variety of Materials to Suit any Need

Formlabs have a vast amount of materials that can be used on their range of biocompatible SLA printers.

Their materials range from being very flexible, to rigid, to materials that be printed quickly and to other materials that are functional in temperatures over 100 degrees. The Formlabs Form 3BL is ideal for:

  • Large parts requiring biocompatibility and sterilization compatibility
  • Medical device prototypes, jigs, fixtures, molds, and end-use parts
  • Patient-specific anatomical models and surgical instruments
  • Visual aids for diagnosis and education
  • Surgical planning models for diagnostic use in FDA-cleared workflows

The Form 3B+ has been designed for medical

The unit is lightweight so it can be easily stored and used in a medical practice, the interface has been developed so that it is understandable by dental workers (and not just manufacturers) and much more. Investing in a Form 3BL means dentists can produce all their prints in-house, reducing client wait times and reducing expenditure on secondary suppliers.

Investing in a Form 3BL opens up more possibilities as you are able to print medical and bio-compatible materials on the Form 3BL. All the medical resins have been FDA approved and are suitable to use in hospitals and other medical practices.

Formlabs Form FAQs

How much resin do I need for my 3D printer?

You should always have a sufficient amount of excess resin whenever you are using your Formlabs 3D printer. Fill the vat with enough resin to cover the build platform, especially when it is at zero position. Consult your manual for more information.

What is 3D printing most commonly used for?

Formlabs 3D printers are very competitvely priced, so it’s becoming more popular among businesses in different industries, such as medical, architectural, engineering, and more. Any business that needs to manufacture small parts in limited quantities will find Formlabs 3D printers more useful, faster and reliable than traditional manufacturing.

What can I print with Formlabs SLA?

You can create almost any 3D model with your printer. From prototypes to jigs and fixtures for production.

Is SLA faster than FDM?

Most FDM desktop 3D printers are faster than SLA types. However, if you print too fast, the final product will be lower in quality. Another difference between the two is the size; FDM is usually used to create large but less complex parts. Use SLA if you want to create highly detailed models.

Are resin prints stronger than FDM?

SLA resin is considered a stronger material than nylon, polycarbonate, and other tough FDM materials. Formlabs Form 4 is a resin 3D printer, is the ideal machine for you if you want to produce more durable prototypes.

How long does Formlabs resin last?

Formlabs resins usually last between 12 and 24 months in the resin cartridge. However, the resin type can greatly affect its lifespan. You should also avoid using any expired resin for your 3D printing projects. Make sure to properly dispose of resins that have reached their expiry date.

How strong is a 3D printed resin?

The final product printed using tough resin will have a modulus of elasticity of 2.7 GPa and tensile strength of 55.7 MPa. This means that the material is resistant to splintering and shattering, so if you want strong printed models, use a resin 3 dimensional printer like the Formlabs Form 4.

What are the benefits of 3D printing?

3D printing can boost the production industry as this method is faster and more cost-efficient than the traditional approach. Moreover, purchasing 3 dimensional printers allows you complete control over the design and customization of your printed products.
