At TriMech, we are constantly exploring new ways to enhance our capabilities and explore new products in the Additive Manufacturing world. Over the years, technology has advanced to support 3D printing for manufacturing and TriMech has added two advanced 3D printers to our lineup: the Union Tech RS Pro 1400 and the Stratasys F3300.
These machines represent a strategic investment in improving our quality and range of services in 3D printing for manufacturing. To explain why we chose these models and how they fit into our larger manufacturing goals, Daniel Straka, General Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Services at TriMech, shared his insights on their unique capabilities and the benefits they bring to 3D Printing for manufacturing.
Why Did you Choose the Union Tech RS Pro 1400?
The Union Tech RS Pro 1400 is a Stereolithography (SLA) 3D printer that produces large, highly detailed parts. Its significant build volume allows for larger-scale projects that previously required multiple prints. Daniel Straka explains,
“The Union Tech RS Pro 1400 is solving largely the same problem but in a couple of different ways, so that system ends up being five times faster than a lot of older SLA systems.”
This speed and scale are game changers. Daniel further emphasizes, “This machine’s speed and scale allow us to take on massive parts, like a 1400mm piece, in one print, enhancing both quality and efficiency.” This capability is particularly beneficial for projects requiring large-scale models or prototypes.

What Features of the Stratasys F3300 made it a Desirable Investment?
The Stratasys F3300, part of the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) family, is renowned for its robustness and material versatility. It excels in producing durable prototypes and end-use parts, which is crucial for industries demanding functional testing and final part performance. As our industry pushes for “more and more” from 3D-printed parts, quality and production capabilities are paramount. Daniel Straka notes, “We’re facing a push towards complexity, so all the machines that we buy now have to be production-worthy parts.” The F3300’s ability to print with engineering-grade thermoplastics like ABS, ASA, and Carbon Fiber filled Nylon aligns perfectly with this need.

What Business Impact Will This Investment Make?
The Union Tech RS Pro 1400 and the Stratasys F3300 significantly enhance TriMech’s ability to handle complex projects efficiently. The RS Pro 1400 reduces the need for multiple prints, cutting lead times and improving workflow. For instance, Straka’s team replaced a 38-piece part assembly with a single 38-by-28-inch casting pattern, improving accuracy and reducing errors. Additionally, the RS Pro 1400 was able to slash printing time from 500 to 128 hours for a trade show model, nearly four times faster! Dan mentions, “The F3300 with its multiple extrusion heads, its overall size, you know, is one of the big benefits to that system versus buying a bunch of other little, smaller systems.” This capability, combined with the machine’s speed, allows our Advanced Manufacturing Services team to handle more complex projects more efficiently. The Stratasys F3300, which can print solid and durable materials, is ideal for functional prototypes and end-use parts. Expanding our service offerings and positioning TriMech as a leader in additive manufacturing.
